Flowers have given me so much; employment, the opportunity to be a business owner, instructor and traveler. Now, I will be sharing my experiences and expertise with the readers interested in learning more about the art, craft and industry of floral design.
This amazing industry and my training at UFV in floral design has facilitated not only an expression of my artistic flare, it has given me the opportunity for travel to such places as a FTD Convention in Orlando, Florida, a trip to the Chelsea garden show in England, a trip to Floriad in Holland (only held once every ten years) and a trip to the Alsmeer Floral Auction in Holland, truly a must see for anyone travelling there!
It all began for me in November 2002, when I graduated with my floral design certification. In December of that year I was prepared to be an employee at Mary Clark Flowers, and apprenticed under the direction of Mary Heibert (CPFD) for six months. Over the years I took additional courses in Weddings under the direction of Tammy Klassen as well as the Funeral and Sympathy course under the direction of Hitomi Gilliam.
After my apprenticeship I worked as Mary Clark Flowers' store manager until 2010 and then was purchased the store. In September 2010, I returned to UFV as an instructor in the UFV floral design Program. I attended an instructions course offerd by UFV. This was one of the many highlights of a rich and fulfilling floral design career! Especially when I had the privilege of shaking students hands upon graduation and walking them into their career in Floral Design.
Above all I feel a great deal privilege and honor, when, I walk people through their joys and challenges in life with the gift of floral design.
Today, in my retirement, I am pursing a life long goal of writing a book and I work as a consultant and florist for special events.
